Smog is a type of air pollution and comes from the words smoke and fog, which refers to smoky fog. This air pollution consists of nitrogen oxides, sulfur oxides, ozone, smoke or dirt particles and even less visible particles. Smog arises from carbon, vehicle and industrial emissions as well as forest fires etc.<\/p>\n

Today we also know that air pollution can react in the atmosphere with sunlight and form new pollutants sk. photochemical smog. Smog is very toxic and can cause serious illness, shortened life or death.<\/p>\n

Why is it toxic?<\/h2>\n

The effect of inhaling pollution has shown to cause asthma, lung cancer, respiratory disease, cardiovascular disease, premature birth, birth defects, low birth weight and premature death. It can also increase the risk of as low birth weight and high blood pressure in children. Air pollution is estimated to result in 22,000-52,000 deaths per year in the US and about 3-4 million deaths globally each year (Source: WHO).<\/p>\n

Sequela<\/h2>\n

In 2005, the World Health Organization (WHO) estimated that fine particulate air pollution (PM 2.5) causes about 3% of cardiovascular disease mortality, about 5% of trachea, bronchitis and lung mortality, and about 1% of acute respiratory infections mortality in children.<\/p>\n
